THE PERFECT PH AND AVOIDANCE OF HARMFUL SUBSTANCES

Beauty and health are two essential aspects in the world of haircare.

To safeguard, protect and preserve hair, the pH of the products plays a fundamental role and if it is not correct, it can cause several damages to the hair.

The pH is a unit of measurement that detects the number of ions present in the chemical composition of a substance, which can be positive or negative depending on their charge.On a scale of values between 0 and 14, the pH value classifies substances into:

acidic if they have a pH of 0 to 7, like our skin.
neutral at pH 7, like water.
basic (or alkaline) from 7 to 14, like soaps.

The ideal pH of the scalp is between 4.5 and 5.5, while that of the hair shaft is slightly more acidic (up to 3.5) due to the presence of the hydrolipidic film that covers it.

Therefore, in order to respect the physiological balance of skin and hair, it is important that the pH of haircare products is acidic, i.e. between 0 and 7.

In the realization of Gate Ocean Wash & Care products we have put particular care to the choice of Ph for each category of product in the Perfect Hair Care Routine.

All shampoos have a pH 5.0 to maintain the hydrolipidic film of the hair, a too high pH (basic) lead not only to a mechanical stress, (opening of the cuticles), but also to an accumulation of excessive negative charges.

The two different types of masks, for treated and untreated hair, have a pH of 4.0 with the main function of smoothing the cuticle and increasing resistance to external stress without causing any weighing down, and giving new strength and solidity to the hair.

Finally, the Leave In Spray with its many benefits, has a Ph 5.5 and is perfect for all hair types, ideal for easier drying, moisturizing and protecting the hair. It’s a line totally free of substances of animal origin, SLES, SLS, sulfates, EDTA and parabens.
